What is night church?

The word church means ‘ gathering’ – the gathering of God’s people around his word. At our ‘ gathering’ at Douglas Mawson Drive things were getting a bit full so we have started a new church for young people that meets on Sunday nights at Western Plains cultural centre.

We’ve called it ‘ night church’. Creative aren’t we!

Who is it for?

We want to help young adults in Dubbo know Jesus.  If you are in Yr 12 and up and want to find out about Jesus for the first time or if you are already a follower of Jesus and want to help other young adults come to know him then night church is for you!

Night Church is the newest Church in the DPC family

What matters to you as a Church?

The Bible is important to us so we’ll read it and what we do and how we live will be based on it.

We take Jesus seriously so you’ll hear a lot about him.

We value relationships so nightchurch is more than just a Sunday meeting – it’s caring for and  sharing our lives with each other and helping each other know Jesus better.

What happens on a Sunday night?

At 7 o’clock we have some music and coffee.

At 7:30 we’ll sing a couple of songs together, interview someone who’s been coming along for a while, have someone read part of the Bible, listen to a talk from the Bible, have a short time for questions, maybe sing another song and then have some more coffee. That’s the basic format, it might change slightly from week to week.

What happens not on a Sunday?

Church is not a building it’s people, and so church doesn’t stop during the week. As a church we want to help each other follow Jesus at work, at home, with friends as we live life together. Check out our facebook page or facebook group  for what’s happening during the week. (Does anyone have any idea if it’s better to have a facebook group or a facebook page??? Still working that one out!)

How long will it go for?

We aim to be finished by a bit before 8:30. So the formal bit it a little under an hour. (We’re trying not to make it too ‘formal’ though.)

What about Children?

At nightchurch we don’t have a children’s program but over at Douglas Mawson Drive we have three other churches on a Sunday including a 6pm evening meeting and they all have a Sunday School and children’s program.

What about Teenagers?

Nightchurch is aiming for people who have left school – working, at Uni or TAFE or still looking for work. If you’re in year 12 it’s a year of transition – you’re most welcome to come along & start to get to know people. If you are still at school we have a great youth group (called ‘The Mob’) which we’d love you to be a part of. Check out dpc.org.au for more details.

What should I wear?

Whatever you feel comfortable in. We’re not that fussed but some people ask. (For instance, jeans and a shirt would fit right in.)

Is the coffee and music good?

The music’s great. The coffee’s not (yet) but we’re working on it!

If I give you my contact details will use them to spam me?

We take your privacy seriously! If you give us your contact details we may use them to get in touch if something is coming up, or to answer a question you have asked. We will not pass your details on to anyone.

What if I’ve never been to church before?

Then Nightchurch is perfect for you! You won’t be put on the spot or asked any questions. We’re trying to get rid of the baggage that puts some people off church (like the stuff you see on the Simpsons) but still challenge people from the Bible about where they stand with God. If you do find anything a bit awkward please let us know – we have feedback cards available – we are trying to make nightchurch as friendly as possible.

Should I go to night church?

Absolutely!
